I can't say enough about Silicon Graphics' 1600SW TFT display. Cool looking in 1998, it's cool looking today; but as with all SGI technology, it's a little strange (that's not a bad thing). This is not a monitor that you can just bring home, plug in, and go to work on. You've got to understand it first. But it's well worth the effort, for even over 10 years later it doesn't get any better than The SGI 1600SW documentation (from SGI) claims the following pinout: (This matches the SGI documentation for the O2 video-card): SEE NOTE BELOW 23 SCL 24 GND 25 SDA 26-30 VCC 31 LVDS_EN NOTE: THIS CONFLICTS with the used/functional-pinout AND SWAPS VCC and GND! BTW, IMNSHO [:-)] , the SGI 1600SW is the best flat panel out there bar none. The 22" Apple Cinema display is too grainy (same resolution, larger display, larger pixels, twice as much) and all of the other flat panels just don't have the same quality, nor the ability to turn the 'pixels' on and off fast enough - they ghost like mad when moving windows around or playing videos. All of them use a SGI Multilink Controller. The only age related failures have been the 12v 4amp power supplies, but they are easily replaced for $20. Turn off the display when not in use to extend the life of the back light.

The 1600SW used a 36-pin MDR36 male connector with a pinout that differs from that of the 36-pin centronics-style connector in the OpenLDI standard. The 1600SW LCD is still widely considered a fantastic monitor, if you can find the time and resources to actually connect one. SGI no longer manufacturers or sells the monitors, adapters, or cables, but there is a thriving underground market amongst SGI fans and enthusiasts.
